Rokytnice n.J.: City funds proposal from School Forum

The participation of children and youth is important for Rokytnice. It is possible to approach it in many ways. The city decided to financially support the winning proposal of elementary school students, which came from the School Forum and was subsequently verified by the students' vote through a school poll.

Describe the main purpose / aim of your activity / project. What were its side effects or secondary results?	The aim was to provide financial support to the winning proposal, which will be chosen by primary school pupils within the school forum. The intention of this event is to encourage the young generation to get involved in issues of improving the quality of life and development of the school and the city; pupils are given space to express their opinions and ideas about what can be improved and changed in the school and within the municipality. At the same time, the event aims to arouse students' interest in the school environment and public events, and to show them that they too can decide on further development and change a lot. This is not a discussion on pre-prepared topics or documents, but a form of community discussion. The activity can support children's ability to learn to search for information and critically evaluate received information. The school forum on 10/5/2023 was attended by pupils of the 5th - 9th grade of elementary school in the number of 25 pupils. Subsequently, a school survey took place among the pupils, in which all pupils of the 5th - 9th grade took part; they could choose from 20 projects that were proposed at the school forum, or add their own proposal. The winning proposal for the school (relaxation/rest zones in classrooms) will be financially supported from the budget of the City of Rokytnice nad Jizerou in the amount of CZK 25,000.

What were the financial costs of carrying out the activity?	[tis. Kč] 30,888
How was the activity funded?	The event was financed 1/3 from the budget of the city of Rokytnice nad Jizerou and 2/3 from a subsidy from the Liberec region. The implementation of the selected proposal is fully financed from the budget of the City of Rokytnice nad Jizerou.
Detailed schedule:	The total costs were CZK 30,888 (25,000 supported winning proposal, 5,888 other costs). (The money must be invested in the implementation of the winning project by the end of the calendar year.)
Recommendations and inspiration
What recommendations / advice can be deduced from the implementation of your activities and provided to other municipalities with a similar intention?	An action that can be easily implemented. School pupils are happy to get involved and actively work on their ideas to improve the quality of life in the school and in the city. In many ways, their views may surprise. The fact that the financial support of the project was already mentioned at the beginning, there was a noticeable motivation from all actors to create something meaningful and necessary, which will serve the benefit. We expect interest in these events in the future as well.
Risk, obstacles and positive moments in the implementation process
Describe the main strengths of your activity / project during its realization?	Motivating young people to take an interest in events at school and in the city. Involvement of children in deciding on the winning design for the school.
Describe the main weaknesses of your activity / project during its realization?	Limited budget possibilities and the reality of proposals based on the possibilities of the city.
During the implementation of the activities / project, did you encounter an event that fundamentally affected the implementation?	Some students' ideas cannot be implemented for various reasons. All the ideas that came from the school forum were commented on by the headmistress and the deputy mayor, where the children learned the reasons that prevent implementation (e.g. the law, private owners,...)

Do you plan to further develop/maintain the activity/project?	Ano, školní fórum plánujeme za rok opakovat.
Media, promotion
How was the communication with the media and what were the media outcomes?	The event was presented on the website of the Primary School and parents of pupils were informed about this event at class meetings. Furthermore, communication with the public took place via Facebook. Elementary schools and the town of Rokytnice nad Jizerou and finally the school forum was written about in the Rokytnice zpravodaj - see attachment.< /p>
